My CD release party is coming up. I went on the air today (KVMR) to promote it, but only got a few minutes to do so. But I’m on another show next week, and hopefully I’ll get a little more time. Ideally, I’d like to play a couple songs on guitar, with some banter in between. They had some special fund-raising thing today, so the studio was in chaos.
So, the party. Wendy’s making goodies. Katheryn made a righteous flyer. I’ll be making the music–along with Ty, Taylor, Kellie and Larry Tracy (dobro). I’m feeling very fortunate to get to play with these guys, all excellent musicians.
I got a new toy. It’s a digital PCM recorder (not sure what the acronym stands for). But it’s basically a hand-held device that is surprisingly hi fidelity. “CD quality”, they call it. I had the Tascam DR-05, but it was stolen when our car was broken into in Saint Louis over the summer. Of course, I had to upgrade when I replaced it. Now I have the DR-40, which has several new features. One, it overdubs. I can record at least two tracks for a song. And it has some plug-ins, like reverb and such. Second, it has the three prong microphone inputs. Two of them. The built in mics are pretty nice, and be set to two configurations, but I can also utilize my fancier microphones.
I’m not generally good at learning how to use new audio equipment, and this model probably can do 5 times more than I’ll ever use. But it could turn out to be a very useful tool, which will enable me to make decent demo tracks with little fuss.
Wendy wants to have a drinky poo. Got to go.
